Why is my video still processing?¶
A new video, a replacement or an AI edit takes a little while to prepare before it can play. This page explains what each status means and what to do when something is stuck or fails.
What the statuses mean¶
You see these in the Library, in the upload tray at the bottom of the sidebar, and in the Studio top bar.
| You see | What is happening |
|---|---|
| Waiting | Your file is queued. OhPlayer uploads up to 3 files at once, and the rest wait their turn. |
| Uploading or Uploading 42% | Your file is on its way to OhPlayer. The tray also shows the time left, for example "42% · 30s left". |
| Encoding | OhPlayer is preparing the video for playback. The Studio pill reads "Reading the file…" and then "Preparing playback…". |
| An edit or replacement in the Studio | The Studio top bar shows a progress pill while an edit or replacement is prepared. For an edit it reads "Cutting a new take…", then "Preparing playback…", then "Rendering the edit… this can take a while. You can leave this page." Your live video keeps playing. |
| Encode issue or Failed | Something went wrong. See When it fails. |
When the status chip disappears from the Library row, the video is ready and you can open it in the Studio.
Time depends on the length and size of your video. You can leave the page at any time. Uploads and renders continue on their own.
Quality: lower first, higher later¶
OhPlayer prepares a lower-quality version first so your video can play as soon as possible. Higher-quality versions are added in the background afterwards, and the player switches to the best one for each viewer's connection.
- There is no separate label or badge for the higher qualities. Once the video is Ready it is playable, and better quality follows without you doing anything.
- OhPlayer never enlarges a video. A 720p upload does not get a 1080p version, and the top quality is 1080p.
- If you turn on the Quality menu in Playback settings, viewers can also pick a quality themselves.
First video in onboarding¶
The first video you add in onboarding shows two stages: Upload and Preparing playback. While you wait, a sample shows what an AI edit does. Captions for the AI edit are added in the background once the video is ready, so you can click Open studio straight away.
If a stage fails, it turns red and shows Failed, and the reason shows below. Click Try again, or Pick another to choose a different file. See Quickstart.
AI edits¶
While an AI edit renders, the AI edit panel shows Making your edit with a progress bar and the time left. You can leave the page. OhPlayer emails you when the edit is ready to review. Your live video does not change until you publish. See AI edit.
Published videos while something is processing¶
Your live video keeps playing while a replacement or an edit is prepared. In the Share dialog you may see:
- "The player is still encoding. Embed unlocks when this version is ready." The video is new and not ready yet.
- "A new version is encoding. The embed still plays the last ready cut." A replacement or edit is in progress, and viewers still see the current live version.
- "The new edit didn't finish. The embed still plays your live video." An edit failed and nothing changed for viewers.
- "Replacement failed. The embed still plays the previous video." A replacement failed and the old video is still live.
When it fails¶
A failed upload or encode shows Encode issue or Failed. In the Studio top bar a failed edit reads "Edit didn't finish — live video unchanged" and a failed replacement reads "Replacement failed — still playing previous".
- Click Retry on the video row in the Library.
- If it fails again, upload the file again. Check that it is an MP4, MOV or WebM file under 2 GB. See Import a video.
- If it still fails, contact support@ohplayer.com and include the video name.
Click Dismiss to clear a failed upload from the tray. In the Studio, the X on the failure pill hides it for that failed version.
For failed AI edit renders, see the reasons and fixes in AI edit.
